are lethal, I've decided.

Not the kind that you drive around, the kind that you have in childrens playgrounds.

We went to the park on Saturday afternoon, Grace was on a very tame (or so it seemed) roundabout. It didn't go very fast and is actually designed to be used by kids in wheelchairs aswell as able bodied kids. It's flush with the ground and very heavy to push.
She was sitting on the hand rail support thingies in the middle. All was fine. Until she fell backwards, she managed to catch herself with the backs of her legs and hung there in mid air for what seemed like ages. I saw it happen and ran straight over, but just as I reached her she fell.
She hit her face on a metal bar and fell onto her thumb.
The park was instantly and unsurprisingly filled with the horrendous wail that you can only associate with a child who has broken a bone.
Instantly the thumb on her right hand swelled and a huge red patch appeared on her left cheek.

So 5 hours later we emerged from A+E having had the thumb x-rayed and told it's fine, and a warning that if the swelling on the face hasn't gone down in a couple of days to return for another x-ray.

It's a couple of days later and the swelling hasn't gone down - so I am now procrastinating about another 5 hour A+E visit and the possibility of a 6 year old with a broken cheek bone.....!

Who would have thought that a visit to the park could be such a pain in the arse?
